Port Wallis is known as the Friendly Green church because of our open and welcoming arms to the community.
There are many different groups that use our building for meetings, events and more. You can always find updated info and events on our Facebook page. www.facebook.com/portwallisunitedchurch
Here is a list of some of the groups and their contacts.
OUTREACH MINISTRIES SUPPORTED BY PORT WALLIS
Margaret’s House, located in downtown Dartmouth, hosts guests to a noon meal every day. Often these are people who are challenged economically or in other ways. They need the comfort and care of our love and support. On Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter, a full meal is provided by the Churches of Dartmouth with Port Wallis providing all the butter, buns, and biscuits. If you would like to help, speak to David and Darlene. On the first Thursday of each month, we meet in the Kitchen to make then deliver a noon meal of sandwiches and apple juice. Contributions of canned meats, mayonnaise and apple juice are always welcomed. If this project interests you, please speak to Kay. Monetary contributions are gratefully received through your weekly offerings.
North Dartmouth Out Reach Resource Centre, is located in Stairs Memorial United Church, and provides food PLUS offers help through bus tickets, clothing, getting new Health Cards and other means by which people are re-integrated into the work force. We often deal with emergency requests (steel-toed work boots, winter parka, etc.) since they know Port Wallis will never let them down.
HOPE COTTAGE provides supper every week day and were
very grateful for our Pasta and Pasta Sauce campaign.
BRUNSWICK STREET MISSION provides clothing and other necessities. Items can be dropped off at 2107 Brunswick Street, Halifax between 9am – 2pm, Monday – Friday.
We also support a home for recovering alcoholics and make Christmas for those who are spending the Holidays apart from their families. We fill stockings, wrap gifts and see that each person has a Christmas filled with love. Your White Gifts at Christmas help to supply these needs.
Offerings to the Benevolent Fund helps to support these endeavours.
