LIGHTING OF THE CHRIST CANDLE
Eternal Light born of the Eternal Light.
You are the Light of the Father’s Presence,
God’s Radiance and God’s Glory, You are the Light of the Heavenly Hosts
and the Light of every person who comes into this World; through Your Resurrection,
You bestow new Life on all people
and bring us to the Light of your Father’s Kingdom;
bring us, at the End, to the Light of Your Eternal Day
from which we shall never be again exiled.
We light now this candle
Remembering that Jesus Christ is the Light of the World,
the Light that shines in the darkness
and which the darkness has not overcome.
Blessed is Jesus Christ our Lord, the Light of the World.
Hallelujah! Christ is risen!
Christ is risen indeed. Hallelujah!
Let the mighty chorus resound again! Hallelujah!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
Let us echo the everlasting song of the redeemed: Christ is risen! Hallelujah!
HYMN # 177 (VU) THIS JOYFUL EASTERTIDE
SCRIPTURE LESSONS
First Lesson: Acts 2: 36 -41
Psalm 116
I will fulfill my vows to the LORD
in the presence of all the people.
I love the LORD for God has heard my voice;
God heard my cry for mercy.
Because the LORD stopped to listen to me,
I will be faithful to God as long as I live.
The snares of death entangled me,
the fearful anguish of the grave swallowed me;
I was overwhelmed by distress and sorrow.
Then I called on the name of our God:
“LORD, save me!”
I will fulfill my vows to the LORD
in the presence of all the people.
The LORD is gracious and righteous;
our God is full of compassion.
The LORD protects the unwary;
when I was brought low, God saved me.
Rest in peace, my soul, for the LORD has been good to you.
You, O LORD, have delivered my soul from death,
my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling,
and I will walk before You in the land of the living.
I will fulfill my vows to the LORD
in the presence of all the people.
What shall I return to the LORD for all the kindnesses
I have received from God?
I will lift up the cup of salvation
I will praise the name of our God.
I will fulfill my vows to the LORD
in the presence of all the people of God.
Heartbreakingly precious in the sight of the Lord
is the death of any faithful servant.
Truly, truly I pledge to You that I am your servant, LORD;
I will serve You just as my mother did;
You have freed me from chains, snares, and fetters,
I will come before You with thanksgiving
and sing praises to the name of the LORD.
I will fulfill my vows to the LORD
in the presence of all the people.
In the courts of the house of the LORD,
in your midst of the Holy City, Jerusalem,
I will shout my praises! Hallelujah!
I will fulfill my vows to the LORD
in the presence of all the people.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
World without end, Amen.
Gospel Lesson: Luke 24: 13 – 35

BENEDICTION
May the blessing of the Maker be yours,
Encircling us, above us and within us.
May the blessing of the Son be yours,
The Wine and the water, the Bread and the stories,
to feed us and remind us.
May the blessing of the Spirit be yours,
The wind and the fire, the still small voice of calm,
to comfort us and disturb us.
May the blessing of God, Three-in-One and One-in-Three,
be yours, this day and every day,
To protect us, defend us, encourage us and strengthen us.
And may we bless each other,
A blessing rooted in our common pilgrimage,
the blessing of a friend.
EXCHANGING OF THE PEACE OF CHRIST
