Season of Pentecost                            Morning Praise                     28 June 2020

Everyone is encouraged to respond using the Bolded words.

WORDS OF WELCOME AND THE LIGHTING OF THE CHRIST CANDLE

OPENING RESPONSES

Arise and shine for our light has come!

The Glory of the Lord has risen upon us.

O LORD, open our lips,

That we may proclaim your praise.

O LORD, open our eyes,

That we may behold your Presence.

O LORD, open our ears,

That we may perceive your voice.

O LORD, open our hearts,

That we may respond to your love!

O LORD, open our lives,

That we may rejoice with all creation.

OPENING HYMN  #  28 (MV) GOD OF THE BIBLE

God of the Bible, God in the Gospel,

hope seen in Jesus, hope yet to come,

you are our center, daylight or darkness,

freedom or prison, you are our home.

Fresh as the morning, sure as the sunrise, God always faithful, you do not change.

Fresh as the morning, sure as the sunrise, God always faithful, you do not change.

God in our struggles, God in our hunger,

suffering with us, taking our part,

still you empower us, mothering Spirit,

feeding, sustaining, from your own heart.

Fresh as the morning, sure as the sunrise, God always faithful, you do not change.

Fresh as the morning, sure as the sunrise, God always faithful, you do not change.

Those without status, those who are nothing,

you have made royal, gifted with rights,

chosen as partners, midwives of justice,

birthing new systems, lighting new lights.

Fresh as the morning, sure as the sunrise, God always faithful, you do not change.

Fresh as the morning, sure as the sunrise, God always faithful, you do not change.

Not by your finger, not by your anger,

will our world order change in a day,

but by your people, fearless and faithful,

small paper lanterns, lighting the way.

Fresh as the morning, sure as the sunrise, God always faithful, you do not change.

Fresh as the morning, sure as the sunrise, God always faithful, you do not change.

Hope we must carry, shining and certain,

through all our turmoil, terror and loss,

bonding us gladly, one to the other,

till our world changes, facing the Cross.

Fresh as the morning, sure as the sunrise, God always faithful, you do not change.

Fresh as the morning, sure as the sunrise, God always faithful, you do not change.

SCRIPTURE LESSON –   Genesis 22: 1 – 14

THE ANATOMY OF AN ORGAN (part 2)

TEACHING TIME (a time of learning for younger folk)

In peace, dear God, I come to You through Jesus Christ who makes me new

And while I run or play or rest, be with those whom I love best,

Guide me in your Holy Way, as You walk with me each day, AMEN.

HYMN  #  65 (MV) WHEN WE ARE TESTED

When we are tested and wrestle alone,

famished for bread when the world offers stone,

nourish us, God, by your word and your way,

food that sustains us by night and by day.

When in the desert we cry for relief,

pleading for paths marked by certain belief,

lift us to love you beyond sign and test,

trusting your presence, our only true rest.

When we are tempted to barter our souls,

trading the truth for power to control,

teach us to worship and praise only you,

seeking your will in the work that we do.

When we have struggled and searched through the night,

sorting and sifting the wrong from the right,

Savior, surround us with circles of care,

angels of healing, of hope, and of prayer.

REFLECTION ON THE SCRIPTURES

STATEMENT OF FAITH (en français à page 919 dans Voices United)

We are not alone.  We live in God’s world.

We believe in God:

Who has created and is creating,

Who has come in Jesus, the Word made flesh,

      To reconcile and make new;

Who works in us and others by the Spirit.

  We trust in God.

  We are called to be the Church;

         To celebrate God’s Presence,

To live with respect in creation,

         To love and serve others,

To seek justice and resist evil,

      To proclaim Jesus,

Crucified and risen, our judge and our hope.

In life, in death, in life beyond death,

God is with us. We are not alone.

  Thanks be to God.  Amen.

HYMN  #  663  (VU)  MY FAITH LOOKS UP TO THEE

My faith looks up to thee,

Thou Lamb of Calvary, Savior divine!

Now hear me while I pray, Take all my guilt away,

O let me from this day Be wholly thine!

While life’s dark maze I tread,

And griefs around me spread, Be thou my guide;

Bid darkness turn to day, Wipe sorrow’s tears away,

Nor let me ever stray From thee aside.

May thy rich grace impart

Strength to my fainting heart, My zeal inspire!

As thou hast died for me, O may my love to thee

Pure, warm, and changeless be, A living fire!

PARTING PRAYER (in unison)

Bless to us, O God, this day,

The doors we open,

The thresholds we cross,

And all the roads that lie before us.

Go with us always as we go and,

at the close of our day, welcome us home.

EXTINGUISHING OF THE CHRIST CANDLE

We are reminded that the Light of Christ is not in candles nor institutions

but within each of us.  We are the Light of the World

BENEDICTION

May the blessing of the Maker be yours,

Encircling us, above us and within us.

May the blessing of the Son be yours,

The Wine and the water, the Bread and the stories,

to feed us and remind us.

May the blessing of the Spirit be yours,

The Wind and the fire, the still small voice of calm,

to comfort us and disturb us.

May the blessing of God, Three-in-One and One-in-Three,

be yours, this day and every day,

To protect us, defend us, encourage us & strengthen us.

And may we bless each other,

A blessing rooted in our common pilgrimage,

                the blessing of a friend.

EXCHANGING OF THE PEACE OF CHRIST

Mention someone’s name and hold them in your heart.

CHORAL PRAYER  (Singing – Tune is at # 298 in Voices United)

  When you walk from here,

  When you walk from here,

Walk with Justice, walk with Mercy,

And with God’s Humble Care.  Linnea Good 1991
