Words of Welcome and the Lighting of the Christ Candle
Arise and shine for our light has come!
The Glory of the Lord has risen upon us.
O LORD, open our lips,
That we may proclaim your praise.
O LORD, open our eyes,
That we may behold your Presence.
O LORD, open our ears,
That we may perceive your voice.
O LORD, open our hearts,
That we may respond to your love!
O LORD, open our lives,
That we may rejoice with all creation.
Morning Hymn – Abide with Me
Scripture Lesson – Ephesians 5: 8 – 14
8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light 9 (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) 10 and find out what pleases the Lord. 11 Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. 12 It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. 13 But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light. 14 This is why it is said: “Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ shall give you light.”
Statement of Faith (en français à page 919 dans Voices United)
We are not alone. We live in God’s world.
We believe in God:
Who has created and is creating,
Who has come in Jesus, the Word made flesh,
To reconcile and make new;
Who works in us and others by the Spirit.
We trust in God.
We are called to be the Church;
To celebrate God’s Presence,
To live with respect in creation, To love and serve others,
To seek justice and resist evil, To proclaim Jesus,
Crucified and risen, our judge and our hope.
In life, in death, in life beyond death,
God is with us. We are not alone. Thanks be to God. Amen.
Teaching Time (a time of learning and reflection)
Let us join in the following prayer, often called our children’s prayer.
In peace, dear God, I come to You through Jesus Christ who makes me new
And while I run or play or rest, be with those whom I love best,
Guide me in your Holy Way, as You walk with me each day, AMEN.
Hymn – The King of Love
Announcements (for Church and Community)
Prayer Time (responsive, concluding with) THE LORD’S PRAYER
(responsive, concluding with) THE LORD’S PRAYER
For those of you who are joining us from other places, in our 9:15 Service, after which this is modeled,
we pray by the Presider saying a line and the congregation repeating it. Finally we end by saying the LORD’s Prayer together. We invite you to join us in this manner at home.
Let us pray.
Loving and re-creating God
We bring everything in our lives before You,
The worry in our world,
the weight in our souls
and the constant waiting for good new.
We bring everything in our life before You,
And we pour it out on your Table
in front of you
in the presence of our fears.
God of love,
in the silence of our hearts
give us words of welcome,
words of acceptance
and words of renewal
so that when we speak
our words come from you
be filled with you
and carry blessings from you.
We pray for those whom we see,
In the news, in our streets, in our homes, bring us peace.
We pray for those whom we cannot see,
Men and women who labour for our good
In the public service, in hospital labs and in places of research.
We pray for those who live in our hearts,
Our children and parents,
our family of friends,
and our family of faith,
surround us with your love
as a mother hen surrounds her chicks
with her protective wings.
We pray for all communities of faith
Give us new ways to praise you
and the ability to sing your song in a strange land.
We pray for individuals
for all your children
especially for those who are in hospitals,
in nursing homes,
and in places of quarantine.
May they hear our prayers
and receive our comfort.
We pray for those who are far from home,
scattered around the world
searching for the way back.
Though we forget many in our prayers,
You forget none.
Hold us all in your care.
This we ask through Christ our Lord
Who taught us to pray with one voice saying
OUR FATHER, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy Kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom,
the power and the glory,
forever and ever.
Hymn – The Lord’s my Shepherd
Parting Prayer (in unison)
Bless to us, O God, this day, The doors we open,
The thresholds we cross, And all the roads that lie before us.
Go with us always as we go and, at the close of our day, welcome us home.
Extinguishing of the Christ Candle
May the blessing of the Maker be yours,
Encircling us, above us and within us.
May the blessing of the Son be yours,
The Wine and the water, the Bread and the stories,
to feed us and remind us.
May the blessing of the Spirit be yours,
The Wind and the fire, the still small voice of calm,
to comfort us and disturb us.
May the blessing of God, Three-in-One and One-in-Three,
be yours, this day and every day,
To protect us, defend us, encourage us & strengthen us.
And may we bless each other,
A blessing rooted in our common pilgrimage,
the blessing of a friend.
Exchanging of the Peace of Christ
Mention someone’s name and hold them in your heart.
Choral Prayer (Singing – Tune is at # 298 in Voices United)
When you walk from here, When you walk from here,
Walk with Justice, walk with Mercy,
And with God’s Humble Care. Linnea Good 1991
