LIGHTING OF THE CHRIST CANDLE

Eternal Light born of the Eternal Light.

You are the Light of the Father’s Presence,

God’s Radiance and God’s Glory,                                                                                     You are the Light of the Heavenly Hosts

and the Light of every person who comes into this World; through Your Resurrection

You bestow new Life on all people

and bring us to the Light of your Father’s Kingdom;

bring us, at the End, to the Light of Your Eternal Day

from which we shall never be again exiled.

We light now this candle

Remembering that Jesus Christ is the Light of the World,

the Light that shines in the darkness

and which the darkness has not overcome.

Blessed is Jesus Christ our Lord, the Light of the World.

Hallelujah! Christ is risen!                                                 Page 2

    Christ is risen indeed. Hallelujah!

Let the mighty chorus resound again!  Hallelujah!

       Hallelujah!  Hallelujah!  Hallelujah!

Let us echo the everlasting song of the redeemed:            Christ is risen! Hallelujah!

HYMN # 264 (VU) IMMORTAL, INVISIBLE, GOD ONLY WISE*

SCRIPTURE LESSONS

First Lesson:   Acts 17: 22 – 31

Psalm 66  (Verses 1 – 10)

We are the offspring of God, through us God’s mercy will flow,

Come sing, rejoice, and be glad an unknown God we now know!

Shout for joy to the LORD all the earth!
Sing to the glory of God’s name;
Let us make God’s praise glorious.

Let us say to God,

“How marvelous are your deeds! How great is your power!
Your enemies cringe before You.

All creation bows down to You;
the cosmos sings your praise,
the universe praises of your name.”

We are the offspring of God, through us God’s mercy will flow,

Come sing, rejoice, and be glad an unknown God we now know!

Come and see what God has done!
Come and perceive God’s awesome deeds!

In times long past, God turned the sea into dry land,

our ancestors walked on land where there was once water.
O come, let us rejoice in the power of God.
God rules forever and ever,
God watches over the nations.
Though nations may rebel against earthly rulers,

the wise ones know better than to rebel against God.

Praise the LORD, all peoples,
let the sound of God’s praise echo;

God has preserved our lives                                          Page 3
God has kept our feet from slipping.
God, has refined us like silver

so let us shine to the Glory of God!

We are the offspring of God, through us God’s mercy will flow,

Come sing, rejoice, and be glad an unknown God we now know!

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,

world without end, Amen.

Epistle Lesson: 1 Peter 3: 13 – 22

Gospel Lesson:   John 14: 15 – 21  *

ANTHEM – HOW CAN I KEEP FROM SINGING

A TEACHING TIME  (a time of learning for younger folk)

TEACHING PRAYER

In peace, dear God, I come to You

through Jesus Christ who makes me new

And while I run or play or rest,

be with those whom I love best,

Guide me in your Holy Way,

as You walk with me each day, AMEN.

HYMN ~ HYMN FOR MOTHER’S DAY  (Tune: Austrian Hymn) *

God Eternal we now praise You

for the blessings in our life,

For our mothers and our fathers

who did guard us through all strife,

For their kind words and chastisements,

for the route that brought us here,

Hallelujah! We sing loudly!

Thank you for our mothers dear.

Tender hearted, wise and wily,

You formed mothers in your heart,

Gave our tender souls unto them,

knowing love in them would start,

From the first of all our movements,

they would love us without fear;                            Page 4

Hallelujah! We sing loudly!

Thank you for our mothers dear.

Some did birth us, some did choose us,

others loved us as their own,

Through the years of childhood trials,

still their love for us has grown,

Through the years of dark rebellion,

often fraught with bitter tears,

Hallelujah! We sing loudly!

Thank you for our mothers dear.

When in time they join the chorus

of the mighty Angel Band,

And in glory we perceive them,

with our Saviour, hand in hand,

With Thanksgiving we will praise You,

for the love of motherhood,

Seen in fathers, brothers, sisters,

and in moms who understood.

REFLECTION ON THE SCRIPTURE LESSONS – SERMON

OFFERING HYMN # 191 (MV)  WHAT CAN I DO?  *

PASTORAL PRAYER and the LORD’S PRAYER

HYMN # 333 (VU) LOVE DIVINE, ALL LOVES EXCELLING *

BENEDICTION *

May the blessing of the Maker be yours,

Encircling us, above us and within us.

May the blessing of the Son be yours,

The Wine and the water, the Bread and the stories,

to feed us and remind us.

May the blessing of the Spirit be yours,

The wind and the fire, the still small voice of calm,

to comfort us and disturb us.

May the blessing of God, Three-in-One and One-in-Three,

be yours, this day and every day,

To protect us, defend us, encourage us and strengthen us.

And may we bless each other,                                       Page 5

A blessing rooted in our common pilgrimage,

               the blessing of a friend.

EXCHANGING OF THE PEACE OF CHRIST *

CHORAL PARTING PRAYER   # 212 (in More Voices)  *

Sent out in Jesus’ Name  Our hands are ready now

To make the world the place  In which the Kingdom comes.

Sent out in Jesus’ Name  Our hands are ready now

To make the world the place  In which the Kingdom comes.

The Angels cannot change  A world of hurt and pain

Into a world of love, of justice and of peace.

The task is ours to do  To set it really free

O, help us to obey  And carry out your will.
